Jaguar VB stays on a roll with win at Ga. College; Lander is next

The Augusta University volleyball team won in dominating fashion over the Georgia College Bobcats in Milledgeville on Saturday, Nov. 9. 

The 3-0 sweep of the Bobcats marks the Jaguars fifth straight win and moved Augusta’s record to 4-3 in Peach Belt Conference play and a 17-5 overall record. 

After finding themselves down 16-15 in the first set, the Jaguars rattled off seven straight points to take a commanding 22-16 lead in a set they would win 25-19. 

In the second set, both teams traded points on their way to a 14-14 tie, but Augusta went on a run once again, this time an 11-3 run to win the set 25-17. 

The third and final set was all Jaguars, as AU finished the match on an 11-3 run to win the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0. 

Layne Witherspoon continued her dominant ways, totaling a team-high seven kills on a .308 attack percentage. 

The most efficient Jaguar was Jacklynn Simms, who finished with a perfect 5-for-5 on kill attempts. 

Augusta also combined for seven total service aces, led by Janvier Buggs and Mikayla Kline, who both finished with two aces. 

The Jaguars will look to extend their winning streak to six on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Lander University at 6 p.m. AU won the first match between the two teams in five sets on Nov. 1. Lander (5-1, 18-4) is the current league leader with the Jaguars in third.
